New PR pathway for overseas family members affected due to air disasters
IRCC has started a new permanent residence program for the families of the victims who died in the accident of Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 and Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752. The new program has been opened for the candidates who want to settle and support the family members in Canada.
The surviving family member should have close ties with the extended family members. To prove this, the family member in Canada has to provide a statutory declaration. Only two family members per unit are allowed in the application.
The new measure is based on May Policy 2021 of IRCC that ended on May 11, 2022. Immediate and extended family members can apply for this new permanent residence pathway even if they are living outside Canada. The policy is valid from August 3, 2022 to August 2, 2023.
Eligibility requirements
The applicants need to be residing outside Canada. The applicants need to have a relationship with the victim, their common-law partner, or spouse who expired in the Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 and Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752 disasters. The applicants have to provide a complete and signed statutory declaration from the surviving family member in Canada.
Eligible relatives of the victim
The eligible relatives of the victim who can apply through this new pathway are:
- Spouse or common-law partner
- Child (of any age)
- Parent
- Grandparent
- Grandchild
- Sibling (including half siblings)
- Aunt or uncle (their mother or father’s sibling)
- Nephew or niece (the child of their sibling)
Eligible relatives of the spouse or common-law partner of a victim are:
- Child
- Parent
- Grandparent
- Grandchild
- Sibling (including half-siblings)
- Aunt or uncle (the sibling of a victim’s parent)
- Nephew or niece (the child of a victim’s sibling)
The applicants can include the family members if they provide all the admissibility requirements to get permanent residence in Canada. Those family members can also be included who do not have plans to migrate to Canada. If they will not be included, they cannot be sponsored in the future.
