Vaccine passport

Recently, an announcement was made by Denmark’s Ministry of Health and the Elderly regarding a “vaccine passport” for Danish travellers. As per the Health Ministry, the initiative would be launched somewhere in early-2021.

A “self-print” solution, the proposed COVID-19 vaccine passport would initially be used for the assistance of individuals that would be travelling.

Denmark’s COVID-19 vaccine passport will be similar to the COVID-19 test pass already available [see below].

With the announcement of the vaccine passport, more individuals would be able to fly overseas.

Along with the aviation ministry, the event industry in Denmark is also enthusiastic about the future as a vaccine passport would probably enable COVID-19 free festivals in Denmark this summer.

Currently being tested by various airlines, CommonPass is an app that converts an individual’s COVID-19 status into a QR code that can easily be scanned at the airports.

As per the Ministry, the proposed “vaccine passport” will be a document that the citizens of Denmark can obtain following their vaccination. This document, to be referred to as the COVID-19 vaccine passport, would enable such Denmark citizens to travel to countries that have made prior vaccination mandatory for entering their borders.

As of now, Denmark has vaccinated around 1% of its population. In all probability, Denmark might soon make vaccination a requirement for individuals attempting to enter the country.

On October 5, 2020, the World Health Organization [WHO] and Estonia agreed upon a collaboration for developing a “smart yellow card” – that is, a digitally enhanced International Certificate of Vaccination – that would assist towards strengthening the effectiveness of the COVAX initiative.

The COVAX initiative had been established for the speedy development and equal access to COVID-19 vaccines.

Earlier, the Prime Minister of Greece Kyriakos Mitsotakis had written to the EU Commission urging the introduction of a COVID-19 vaccination certificate that would enable ease of travel between the EU member states.
