On September 14, 2021, Canada invited 2,000 Express Entry candidates to apply for permanent residence.
The IRCC (Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada) invited candidates with a minimum score of 462. These candidates have 60 days period to apply for permanent residency.

The invited candidates will have a period of 60 days to apply for permanent residency in Canada.
This draw comes later than expected, as this year, IRCC has typically held a CEC draw after a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draw. Usually, IRCC holds a PNP draw on Wednesdays followed by a CEC draw on Thursdays. However, the CEC draw expected on September 2 did not come.
IRCC has now held the draw one day before the next PNP-specific Express Entry draw is expected to occur.
All hands on deck to process CEC applications
Compared to last year, in 2021, IRCC has invited only PNP and Canadian Experience Class (CEC) candidates.
As the IRCC is still finalizing the applications for CEC candidates who applied in January, Express Entry candidates from other programs might experience a delay in processing the application. Whereas the IRCC says that it is due to the limited capacity to process the applications.
Most CEC candidates in the Express Entry pool apply from inside the country since Canadian experience is a key eligibility factor. CEC candidates must have at least one year of full-time Canadian work experience in a skilled occupation.
Express Entry invitations in 2021
The number of Invitations to Apply (ITAs) was doubled compared to the number of ITAs in 2020. In 2021, the IRCC has issued 108,414 invitations issued to Express Entry candidates. But the IRCC aims to invite 108,500 Express Entry applicants in 2021.
Recent draws | Express Entry Draws | Cutoff score |
24-Jun-21 | CEC only draw | 357 |
7-Jul | PNP only draw | 760 |
8-Jul | CEC only draw | 369 |
21-Jul | PNP only draw | 734 |
22-Jul | CEC only draw | 357 |
4-Aug | PNP only draw | 760 |
5-Aug | CEC only draw | 404 |
18-Aug | PNP only draw | 751 |
19-Aug | CEC only draw | 403 |
1-Sep | PNP only draw | 764 |
14-Sep | CEC only draw | 462 |
The minimum scores will have a difference because of the CEC, and the PNP draws. Comparatively, the CEC will have lower cutoffs because the draws are based on one group of applicants. They will not compete with the Federal Skilled Worker Program.
So, with the lower cutoffs, it can offer bigger draw sizes to invite huge number of candidates.
What is Express Entry?
Express Entry is the most popularly used program to migrate to Canada. It aims to manage skilled worker applications under Federal Economic programs which include:
- Federal Skilled Worker Program
- Federal Skilled Trades Program
- Canada Experience Class
- Few parts of the Provincial Nomination Programs
PNP candidates get 600 points with their PNP nomination. So, the PNP draws are always greater than the Express Entry Draws.
