The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is an English language proficiency exam that more than 3,000 universities globally accept from aspiring immigrants or students wanting to pursue higher education, mostly in English-speaking countries such as Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the UK, and the USA.

IELTS Academic and IELTS General. Candidates interested in taking IELTS must schedule a date and an approved test center. The pen and paper-based IELTS costs INR 16,250. The test's duration is two hours and 45 minutes. Candidates are allowed to sir for the test four times in one month. Why two types of IELTS tests?  

IELTS tests are of two types, IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training, each catering to a particular purpose. Individuals wanting to pursue higher education or a certified qualification in countries where English is spoken take the IELTS Academic test. The IELTS General Training test is taken by candidates wanting to work or migrate to English-speaking countries, where language proficiency is necessary to do well in workplaces. In both test formats, the Listening and Speaking sections are alike, while they differ in the Reading and Writing sections.

Eligibility for the IELTS exam

Candidates of any nation, race, or religion can take the IELTS test. The minimum age to take the test is 16, and the aspirant must hold a valid passport. 

The registration process for IELTS 

Candidates can register online for IELTS or visit the IDP office closest to them to register offline. IELTS test-takers can opt for a test center closest to them. 

IELTS Online Registration

Registration for IELTS is convenient and easy. There are three steps to register for the IELTS exam. Candidates must visit the official website of IDP IELTS to register for IELTS and then follow the steps as mentioned:

• Generate an account
• Identify a suitable date slot according to the availability at the IELTS test centers closest to you.
• Conclude the registration by making a payment online.

IELTS Offline Registration

Here, candidates must download the IELTS exam registration form from the IDP portal. They need to manually choose the test date and complete the other IELTS requirements enquired in the form. After that, the candidate must pay by demand draft drawn in favor of "IDP EDUCATION INDIA PRIVATE LIMITED, payable in New Delhi, or by cash by visiting the nearest ICICI bank with a payment receipt. IELTS Exam Fees 

Candidates can also pay IELTS exam fees online using net banking using a debit or credit card (Mastercard or Visa), Demand Draft, or Netbanking.

IELTS Exam Dates 

International students can take IELTS Academic exam on 48 different days per year, which can be booked as per availability. The candidate can take the IELTS exam dates on 48 days in 2023 for the Academic section and 24 days for the IELTS General Training section. It is better if candidates book for the exam a minimum of three to four months before the application cut-off date. They can reserve IELTS exam dates through IELTS, IDP, or British Council portals.

Validity of IELTS scores   

The IELTS score are valid for two years.
