India has asked Russia to simplify long-term visa process for Indian tourists and business persons. In a recent meeting presided by State Duma Chairman Sergei Naryshkin and Indian Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, the issue of visa process was discussed in length.
During the meeting, India brought up the visa issue asking Russia to not just simplify the visa process but also reduce documentation and duration it takes to obtain a Russian visa. To which, the members of Russian State Duma (Lower House) said that the matter will be taken into consideration.
The request from India comes few months after it introduced E-Visa facility for Russian nationals in November 2014. The E-Visa allows Russians to obtain an Indian visa online within 4 working days. Applicants can submit their documents online and receive an E-Visa and on arrival get their passport stamped with a 30-days visa. It is meant for medical treatment, tourism and to meet family and friends.
So in view of the current relations, it is very likely that Russia will announce eased visa rules for Indians.
