It is a familiar sight for PM Modi at Sydney. Thousands thronged to meet him, wooed by his charismatic presence but most importantly by the optimism that he now presents to the Indian diaspora the world over.
He wooed the Americans at the Madison Square Garden, The Japanese, the Myanmars and now the Aussies at Sydney’s Allphones Arena. Speaking to a 20,000 strong fans at the Arena, Modi promised the gifts he had promised to the American Indians. For Australians, he assured that Visa on Arrival facility is on the cards and soon be available at major airports in India.
For Indian Australians, PM Modi said that PIO and OIC card will be just the same and a lifetime visa will be given to the holders of the card. Thus, removing the need to report to the nearest police station and visit Indian embassy for extension of stay or even visa.
If that's not all, Sydney will have an Indian Culture Centre by February 2015. The Prime Minister also made few small announcements and urged for Indian Australians to invest in India and build toilets and infrastructure. Further adding on India's development plans, he said, "I see no reason why India should stay behind. It is decided we will move ahead."
