According to Statistics Canada reports, more than ten times new permanent residents were invited through Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot settled in small Canadian communities in 2021. Now the business leaders have a hope that this program will become permanent as they are using it to reduce the skill shortages in Canada.

Canada PRs invited through RNIP in 2021 and 2022
RNIP is a five-year plan that has been designed so that small communities can also get the benefits of economic immigration. This program is a pathway for the skilled workers to become permanent residents and migrate to Canada. The program was started in 2020 and 50 new permanent residents were welcomed. In 2021, the number of permanent residents welcomed was 555.
In the first four months of 2022, 625 new permanent residents were welcomed. If this immigration continues, there is a possibility that 1,875 new permanent residents can be welcomed this year.
RNIP is working on the path of Atlantic Immigration Pilot. The AIP has welcomed 4,930 permanent residents in its fifth year for the four provinces which include:
- New Brunswick
- Newfoundland and Labrador
- Nova Scotia
- Prince Edward Island

AIP welcomed 2,080 permanent residents in the first four months of 2022 and there is a possibility of inviting 6,240 new permanent residents by the year-end.
Eligibility for the communities to welcome permanent residents through RNIP
The communities should have either of the following to welcome permanent residents through RNIP:
- The population of the community should be 50,000 or less and it should be at least 75 km away from the major city
- The population of the community should be 200,000 and it should be at a remote location from the major cities

- North Bay, Ontario
- Sudbury, Ontario
- Timmins, Ontario
- Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario
- Thunder Bay, Ontario
- Brandon, Manitoba
- Altona/Rhineland, Manitoba
- Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan
- Claresholm, Alberta
- Vernon, British Columbia
- West Kootenay (Trail, Castlegar, Rossland, Nelson), British Columbia
