Why SAT Exam?

SAT 2023: Eligibility, Fees, Dates, Score Validity

SAT is a test administered by College Board, an American not-for-profit organization. In the format of this test, multiple-choice questions are given, which need to be answered by students who are seeking admission to overseas undergraduate (UG) schools, specifically in Canada and the United States. 

SAT is short for Scholastic Assessment Test, known earlier as the Scholastic Aptitude Test. The SAT assesses the mathematical, verbal, and written skills of candidates. 

As universities in the US accept American College Testing (ACT) scores, besides SAT scores for admission to UG courses, it is important to know which educational institutions act what. Some may accept both.  

SAT Exam 2023 

College Board had announced that they decided to make the SAT exam digital starting March 11, 2023. The duration of the test has also been reduced to two hours and 14 minutes from three hours. Test-takers are allowed to use a calculator for the exam’s math section. Interested candidates wanting to take the SAT test in 2023 can register and book their exam spots. But, most people taking this test are those wishing to join UG programs.

SAT test details

In India, SAT test is held seven times per year. Mostly, the months in which SAT test is conducted are March, May, June, August, October, and December in major cities of India. The College Board has set no particular eligibility conditions for SAT tests. The fee for this test is $104.   

Registration for SAT 2023 

Students intending to take the SAT test must register for it. The registration process can be done through the online mode or via the offline mode through post. Candidates need to create a login id on the official website of the SAT and continue with the registration process when registering through the online method. 

The steps for the online SAT registration process are as follows:

  • Visit the official website of the College Board.
  • Create an account.
  • Fill in all the details required.
  • Opt for the exam at the test center closest.
  • Upload a recent photograph.
  • Pay the test application fee.

The steps for the offline SAT registration process are as follows:

  • Get the registration guide for the SAT test available at many schools.
  • Included in the guide are a return envelope and a registration form.
  • The form must be sent together with a demand draft.
  • In India, the SAT’s local representative is the United States – India Educational Foundation (USIEF). The forms mailed will be diverted to their respective regional offices.

Slot Booking for SAT

Since each designated Test Centre for SAT has a limited number of seats, it would be better if candidates book their slots for SAT exams in advance. Book a slot at the SAT center closest to you to be there on time on the test day.

SAT Exam Pattern, 2023

The SAT exam consists of two main sections — Math, and Reading and Writing.

Students are given a total of 98 questions. 54 questions are posed in the Reading & Writing SAT Section and 44 in Math SAT Section

Fees for SAT Exam in 2023

The details of the SAT test fees in India are as follows:

  • For only the SAT test, the fee is $55 plus the non-US Regional Fee costing $49. Hence, the total fee for the SAT test is $104. 
  • For the SAT exam with Essay, the fee is $68 plus the non-US Regional Fee, which costs $49. Hence, the total fee for the SAT test with the Essay is $117. 

What's the highest SAT score?

SAT scores above 1200 is considered a good SAT score. The maximum score on the SAT test is 1600. An average SAT score is of around 1000.

Dates for SAT in 2023-2024

The upcoming dates of SAT Digital Tests in 2023 are August 26, 2023, October 7, 2023, November 4, 2023, December 2, 2023, March 9, 2024, May 4, 2024, and June 1, 2024.

Note: Students intending to take the SAT digital test have to borrow from the College Board a device. They need to register and request it much before the registration deadline to take into consideration the time for international shipping.
