Express Entry is the system Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) uses to manage applications for permanent residence from skilled workers. Eligible candidates are placed in a pool and ranked against others based on their skills and ability to succeed in Canada. The highest-ranking candidates are invited to apply for permanent residence through regular draws from the pool.

The Express Entry system is designed to be fair and transparent and assess candidates based on objective criteria.

These include factors like:

  • Age
  • Education
  • Work experience
  • Language
  • Proficiency
  • Adaptability

Candidates can do a few things to improve their ranking on the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). One is to score higher on the language tests required by Express Entry, such as IELTS or CELPIP.

Another is to get more work experience in an occupation that’s in demand in Canada. And finally, candidates can increase their education points by pursuing a degree or diploma from a Canadian institution.
