Two types of workers do not require work permits to be employed in short-term assignments:
- Highly skilled workers
- Researchers’
- Highly skilled workers
these workers need to satisfy both these requirements:
Their job is in the National Occupational Classification’s (NOC) skill type 0 (executive, managerial) or skill level A (professional).
Commencing November 16, 2022, updated to NOC 2021 Training Education, Experience and Requirements (TEER) 0 will be NOC 2016 skill type 0, while updated to TEER1 will be NOC skill level A. It is mandatory to use the new NOC levels on any employment offer submitted on and later than November 16, 2022.
They have to work for one of the following durations only:
- Up to 15 days consecutively once every six months
- Up to 30 days consecutively once every twelve months
Researchers
These employees need to satisfy both of these requirements:
- They will conduct research at a publicly funded, degree-awarding organization in Canada or its associated research institution.
- They will work for a single period of 120 days once every twelve months in Canada.
