Abstract: The University of Manchester has announced post-graduate scholarships for Indian women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics or popularly known as STEM.
Highlights: Five post-graduate scholarships for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) were announced by the University of Manchester. This scholarship would be exclusively awarded to post-graduate degree women students from countries in South Asia, including India. The British Council sponsors the scholarships.
The STEM British Council scholarships aim for more participation of women and girls pursuing STEM at the University of Manchester. They are fully funded and cover the complete tuition fees. It also covers the expenses related to studying abroad. It includes costs of flights, visas, and monthly stipends. The scholarship also bears the costs of child or children accompanying the students.
The last date for application is 10th April 2022.
Joint venture of UK and India
The initiative Is a joint venture between the British Council of the UK and DST, the Department of Science and Technology of India. DST plans to boost the involvement of women in the STEM field through GATI or Gender Advancement through Transforming Institutions.

Barbara Wickham, the Country Director of British Council India, says since there had been positive feedback for the scholarships, they brought the scholarship back for the fourth time. She adds that the UK is a highly-coveted education destination among Indians, and attractive scholarships like these will bring in more Indian women students working in STEM.

Eligibility criteria for the scholarship
The eligibility for the scholarships at the University of Manchester is listed below.
- Students should start the study program in the UK from September or October 2022 to 2023
- The student should have proof that they need financial support
- An undergraduate degree is required to gain admission in one of the pre-selected post-graduate courses at the Manchester university
- Has the required level of proficiency in English for the post-graduate study or research
- Active in the field and has work experience and a proven interest in the subject area they have applied for
- Displays enthusiasm for their course of study
