MIT SLOAN SCHOOL OF MANAGEMENT MBA 

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is a private research university in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Established in 1861, it has a campus that is spread over 166 acres. MIT has five schools that house Architecture and, Planning, Engineering, Management, Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences, and Science, and one college Schwarzman College of Computing.

The MBA is a two-year program at Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s (MIT) Sloan School of Management.

Eligibility Criteria 

• The students need to have a bachelor’s degree (3 or 4 years) in any relevant field.
• The minimum GPA a student should get in this program is 3.9.
• Students are allowed to apply with any bachelor’s degree but most of the students belong to fields such as computer science, economics, engineering (various), management, finance, mathematics, statistics, operations research, etc.

WORK EXPERIENCE:

• Work experience is not needed but most students have a work experience of at least 15 months.

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS:

• The students who are not native English speakers English must qualify for IELTS or TOEFL exams to be eligible to apply.
• The minimum TOEFL marks one should get in this program are 90 out of 120.
• For IELTS, the university will decide what is permissive.

EXEMPTION OF LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT:

Students who have had English as their medium of instruction in their primary and secondary schools and also those who have resided in the United States for a minimum of four years and are degree holders from a recognized American university.

• The students need to compulsorily submit the scores of either the GMAT or GRE.
• The university recommends that applicants interview with a member of the MIT Educational Council if available. Council members are graduates of MIT who have offered to interview on behalf of the Office of Admissions.

Work & Study visas

The students can opt for either F1 Visa or J1 Visa.

Applicants holding other non-immigrant visas will not be able to enroll in a study program at MIT.

F1 VISA:

• This option is usually applied by those registering as full-time students at an accredited university.
• One can get it by presenting Form I-20 to a US consulate/embassy and on submission of an F-1 visa application.
• F-1 students need to attend the school they got the Form I-20 from and complete a full course of study while in the US.
• Form I-20 is issued to students who are funded by their families or other private sponsors for their studies.
• After they arrive in the US, students will be approved to reside in this country for the required duration to complete their study programs.

J1 VISA:

• Known also as J1 Exchange Visitor Visa.
• This visa is allowed to be used by those who enter the US to conduct research as members of an Exchange Visitor program. Students need to get considerable (A minimum of 51 percent) funding from their home government, universities, foreign or countrywide organizations, private companies, etc., to qualify for a J-1 visa.
• As students who want to study on personal or family funds are ineligible for J-1 status, they need to apply for F-1 visas.
• The J-1 visa is granted to those who present form DS-2019 (Certificate of Eligibility) to the American consul. 
• If students get funding from the Fulbright or any other US government agency or their home governments, it comes with a “two-year home country residency requirement,” asking students to leave for their home countries for two years before they want to apply for permanent residency or shift to an H or L visa. Moreover, this limit applies to students belonging to certain countries that have registered with the US government a list of skills in need.
• Students who want to use the J-1 visa to enter the United States should clarify with the Consul of the US in their native country if they require adhering to the two-year home residency.
• Students who are holders of J-1 visas can remain in the US for the duration specified on their DS-2019. Their stay can be extended, in case they are pursuing a full-time study course on official academic study.

WORK STUDY

Any student is allowed to apply for an on-campus job. The minimum wage of students is $12.75 per hour and most students earn more than $1,500 a semester.

International students are not allowed to work more than 20 hours a week due to student visa rules.

According to federal regulations, students taking part in a federal work-study program are not allowed to miss classes to carry out their federal work-study functions.

Some of the job types available to MBA graduates are occupations in research, part-time or seasonal jobs, public service duties, research and teaching assistantships, and community service work-study activity.
