TYPES OF GERMANY WORK VISAS

The work visa in Germany is called a residence permit for the purpose of employment, whereas the terms change while usage. Other than these, there are D visas and C visas which are used by some foreign nationals.

D visa lets non-EU citizens come to Germany and then apply for a German work visa. Whereas the C visa is called a tourist or Schengen visa. This allows the visitors to come to Germany for a short stay like a holiday, business trip, or visit family. It cannot be transformed into a residence/work permit.

There are 5 main work visas available for non-EU nationals to apply for:

THE EU BLUE CARD

The EU Blue Card is a residence permit specially made for highly skilled International workers who are searching for qualified employees in the country. Its validity depends on the duration of the work contract of the employee, includes an additional 3 months, and is considered limited to a period of 4-years.

WORK VISA FOR QUALIFIED PROFESSIONALS

This visa is specially made for qualified professionals who have received higher education from qualified vocational training or an institution of higher education that too from outside Germany and are willing to obtain employment in Germany. This work visa/residence permit will be given for a maximum of 4-years. In case the work contract is for short period then the residence permit is given for that duration.

EU students can work for unlimited hours during their semester break whereas they can work for limited working hours as 20 hours per week during the semester days. Non-EU students can also work for almost equal to 120 days.

In most cases, the child or the spouse has to apply for a residence permit from the origin country before joining the family in Germany. To receive a residence permit in Germany one has to complete higher education institution or a qualified vocational institution with Sections 18a & 18b in accordance with the German Residence Permit which allows you to get employment in Germany as a qualified professional.

  • The qualifications have to be recognized either in Germany or equivalent to German higher education.

STEPS TO APPLY FOR A GERMAN WORK PERMIT

Following are the steps to apply for a work permit or visa to take up work in Germany

Step 1: Check the necessary requirements that are relevant to the work visa that you have planned to apply for. Work visas that you can select are work visas for eligible qualified professionals, visas for IT specialists, and EU Blue Card.

Step 2: You need to have a job offer in Germany from an authorized German employer. It has to be a concrete job offer.

Step 3: The job offer you have must be related to your education. There is not mandatory that you need a university degree to obtain a German work visa, you can even just have some vocational training.

Step 4: The employer must be in Germany.

*Note: You cannot work for a US company until it has a branch in Germany.

Step 5: Check the eligibility of the job, which you are willing to apply for.

Step 6: After checking everything, choose the right visa and submit the visa application.

Step 7: Gather all the required documents according to the instructions given.

Step 8: Attend the interview after taking a visa interview appointment.

WORK PERMIT TO GERMANY PR
